This steel missile latch bolt assembly, displayed to the left, was manufactured for the military to be used within a defense weapons system application. Fairchild Auto-Mated Parts manufactured all fixtures for the assembly, and then used our 7-axis CNC Swiss machining technology to produce the part from a combination of 4140 steel, aluminum, and nylon, meeting close ± .001″ tolerances. In addition, we also coined the seat to ensure sealing functionality.
Once the part was manufactured and assembled, we then performed olive drab anodizing – a process commonly used for military components – to plate the latch in a mixture of electro cadmium and electro-zinc formulas. Inspections were also performed to ensure the missile latch met with important military specifications.
With the ability to successfully manufacture this component to fulfill high client expectations, Fairchild Auto-Mated Parts now produces 35,000 missile latches annually for the military, packaging and delivering all finished products to specified locations within an 8-week lead time.
