JOB OPENING: Manufacturing Engineer – Swiss/CNC

OVERVIEW

Role: Manufacturing Engineer – Swiss/CNC

Reports to: President

Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Shift: First (7:30 AM to 4:00 PM). Alternative hours will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Summary: We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support our Swiss/CNC department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating the manufacturability of customer products, developing job cost estimations, and defining Swiss/CNC machining processes. This role requires expertise in creating CAD models, writing CNC programs, and providing engineering support to the production team. The Manufacturing Engineer will also collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance team to resolve nonconformances, implement process improvements, and support capital investment projects to enhance business growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review customer products, determine in-house manufacturability and risk rating, and define the process required to produce customer’s parts
  • Estimate the cost for new RFQs or orders, coordinating with Procurement for external quotes, and Production for tooling needs.
  • Create CAD drawings/models, detailed characteristic requirements for product to be inspected against, and write CNC lathe, mill and Swiss machine programs.
  • Provide engineering support to the production team, identifying tooling needs, assisting with machine setups, troubleshooting, assisting with machine repair, and coordinating machine maintenance.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance team on resolving production nonconformances.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and opportunities for cost reductions, including design suggestions, production process changes, and application of lean principles.
  • Research and evaluate capital investments for business growth with focuses on new machinery and equipment layout.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing/application engineering, preferably within a CNC machining environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks preferred) and CNC programming (MasterCAM preferred).
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling, turning, and Swiss machining.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products (e.g., Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and quality.
